Short answer
The most fun supercar to rent is the McLaren 600LT. Its top-exit exhausts, stripped-down Longtail handling, and 592-hp twin-turbo V8 make it the most thrilling car in our Scottsdale fleet to actually push. The Corvette Z06 is a close second for its 670-hp V8, and the BMW M2 is the most approachable.
The most fun supercar to rent is the one that pulls you in, not the one with the biggest number on the spec sheet. Fun comes from sound, feel, and how much of the car you can use on a real road. In our Scottsdale fleet three cars top that list for three different drivers. The McLaren 600LT is the pure thrill pick. The Corvette Z06 gives you the loudest naturally aspirated drama for the money. The BMW M2 Competition is the one you can enjoy all day without ever feeling out of your depth. Below is how they compare and how to pick the right one for you.
Fun in a supercar comes from three things: engagement, sound, and how usable the car is at legal speeds. A car that only feels alive at 150 mph is not fun on public roads, because you never get there safely. That matters here. Even Arizona's fastest freeways are posted far below what these cars can reach, and going more than 20 mph over any posted limit is criminal excessive speeding, a class 3 misdemeanor under state law A.R.S. 28-701.02. So the cars that deliver the most joy are the ones that thrill you at speeds you can actually drive.
That is why raw top speed is a poor way to rank fun. All three cars here can pass 150 mph, but you will feel most of their character in the first three gears, on an on-ramp, or on a canyon road. The real question is how each one talks to you at those moments. One shouts, one revs to the moon, and one just wants to dance.
We also weigh sound and drama, because a supercar is an event. You remember the noise on start-up and the crackle on a downshift long after you forget a 0-60 figure. Each of these three makes a very different sound, and that shapes which one feels like the most fun to you.
The McLaren 600LT is the most intense car to drive in the fleet, and the closest thing to a road-legal race car. Its name is the giveaway. "LT" stands for Longtail, a badge McLaren first used on the 1997 F1 GTR that won its class at the Le Mans 24 Hours. The 600LT carries that track focus into a car you can rent for the weekend.
The heart of it is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 making 592 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 457 lb-ft of torque. That pushes it from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 8.2 seconds, and on to a 201 mph top speed through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Numbers alone do not explain why it is fun. The feel does. At its lightest the 600LT weighs just 1,247 kg (2,750 lb), up to 100 kg less than the 570S it is based on, so it changes direction like a much smaller car.
Then there is the party trick. The 600LT vents its exhausts straight up, right behind your shoulders, pointed at the rear wing. On a hard run they fire flames into the air on overrun. You do not just hear this car, you feel the heat and see the show in your mirror. That theater, plus the sharpest steering in the group, is why the 600LT is the answer for a driver who wants the biggest thrill and does not mind the highest daily rate in this trio.
The Corvette Z06 gives you the wildest engine here for the most affordable price of any true supercar in the fleet. Its 5.5-liter LT6 V8 makes 670 horsepower at 8,400 rpm, and it is billed as the most powerful naturally aspirated production V8 ever built. It revs to an 8,600 rpm redline, a figure you normally hear from a Ferrari, not an American V8.
That flat-plane-crank engine is the whole reason to rent this car. On the road it sounds exotic, closer to a Le Mans prototype than a muscle car, and it keeps pulling long after you expect it to run out of breath. The mid-engine chassis gives it grip and balance that back the noise up.
The Z06 hits 60 mph in about 2.6 seconds, quicker on paper than the 600LT, and it does all of this for a daily rate well below the McLaren. For a lot of renters that combination makes it the most fun car in the fleet, because you spend less and get the most theatrical engine of the three. It is loud, fast, and easy to show off, which is exactly what most people want from a rental supercar.
The BMW M2 Competition is the car you will have the most fun with over a full day, especially your first time in a performance car. It is the smallest and most affordable of the three, and that is the point. Its 3.0-liter S55 twin-turbo inline-six makes 405 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, the same basic engine family as the M3 and M4 of its era. It runs 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.
Those numbers are plenty quick, but the joy is in the format. The M2 Competition pairs that engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox with launch control. It is rear-wheel drive, compact, and forgiving, which means you can lean into it on a back road without feeling like the car is about to bite. Where the 600LT rewards precision and the Z06 rewards bravery, the M2 rewards you the moment you turn the key.
That approachability makes it a smart first supercar rental. Scottsdale summers run hot, with Phoenix hitting 110 degrees or more on dozens of days a year, and a smaller, easier car is less stressful in stop-and-go heat than a wide, low exotic. If your idea of fun is a car you can actually use for a whole day of driving, coffee runs, and canyon roads, the M2 Competition is the pick.
Here is the quick version, with our current Scottsdale daily rates. Prices and specs can change, so confirm the current rate and the exact car when you book.
| Car | Engine | Power | 0-60 mph | Best for | Daily rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| McLaren 600LT | 3.8L twin-turbo V8 | 592 hp | 2.9 s (0-60) | Sharpest thrills, track feel, flames | $999 |
| Corvette Z06 | 5.5L V8 (naturally aspirated) | 670 hp | 2.6 s | Loudest engine, best value drama | $449 |
| BMW M2 Competition | 3.0L twin-turbo inline-six | 405 hp | 4.2 s | All-day usable fun, first-timers | $399 |
To choose, start with what kind of fun you want. Pick the 600LT if you want the most extreme drive and the biggest show, and the price is not the deciding factor. Pick the Z06 if you want a jaw-dropping engine and the most performance per dollar. Pick the M2 Competition if you want a lower rate and a car you can enjoy without any nerves. The M2 is the one first-timers grin about all day. The Z06 is the engine people rave about when they hand the keys back. The 600LT is the one that has renters talking about the flames for a week. But if you want a single answer, it is the 600LT: the biggest thrill in the fleet, and the reason it tops this list.
