How old do you have to be to rent an exotic car in Arizona?

Updated: June 26, 2026

Short answer

You must be at least 25 to rent an exotic car from Grant Motor Group in Arizona, or 21 with prior GMG approval. You also need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and proof of insurance. International renters bring a valid driver's license from their home country, plus an International Driving Permit if that license is not in English. Text (623) 400-3031 to confirm you qualify.

The minimum age to rent an exotic car at Grant Motor Group is 25, with a path at 21 for drivers who get prior approval from the team. Age is not the whole rule, though. GMG also asks for a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and proof of insurance. So the practical answer is simple: 25 and up qualifies on the standard track, and a responsible 21 to 24 year old can still rent by clearing an approval step first.

What you need besides your age

Meeting the age rule is only the first requirement. The rest of the checklist at Grant Motor Group is:

  • A valid driver's license.
  • A clean driving record with no major violations.
  • Proof of insurance. Coverage limits for a high-value exotic can be specific, so confirm what your policy needs to show by calling or texting the team before you book.
  • For visitors from abroad, a valid driver's license from your home country, plus an International Driving Permit if that license is not in English.

Bring your documents to pickup or have them ready at delivery, because a pre-rental inspection and a paperwork check happen before you drive either way.

One more point on the requirements: they apply to every driver, not only the person booking. If you want a friend or a family member to drive the car too, that additional driver has to meet the same age, record, and insurance rules and be added to the rental. Passengers have a simpler rule: anyone riding along must be 18 or older. A car booked by a qualifying renter cannot be handed to a driver who would not qualify on their own, so sort out who is driving before the day.

Why the limit is 25, with a path at 21

Grant Motor Group sets its standard age floor at 25, which lines up with most exotic and luxury programs. Many national programs stop there. SIXT and the Hertz Dream Collection, for example, commonly require drivers to be 25 for high-end models. GMG matches that standard bar but adds something most chains do not: a real path for younger drivers.

That path is prior approval. A careful 21 to 24 year old can rent by getting the green light from the team first, rather than being turned away by a birthday alone. The company is screening for experience and a track record, so the approval step is where a younger driver's clean history and insurance get reviewed. If you are under 25, do not assume the door is closed. Ask, because approval at 21 is a genuine option here.

What counts as a clean driving record

A clean record means no major violations on your driving history. Insurers and rental companies treat some marks as serious and others as minor. The serious ones that can disqualify a rental usually include a DUI or DWI, reckless driving, a recent license suspension, repeated speeding offenses, or a pattern of at-fault accidents. A single old parking ticket is not what this rule is about.

This requirement is tied to the insurance and risk screen, not bureaucracy. The car is worth six figures, so the company wants drivers whose record shows they handle that responsibility. If your record has something on it and you are not sure whether it counts, the honest move is to ask before you book rather than find out at delivery. A quick, upfront conversation saves a wasted trip and a held reservation.

How far back does it matter? Most insurers and rental companies look at roughly the past three to five years. An old, isolated issue usually weighs less than a recent one. A single violation from years ago with a clean stretch since is a very different picture than two incidents in the last year. If your history is borderline, describe it honestly when you ask, and the team can tell you where you stand.

Renting from out of state or abroad

You do not need an Arizona license or Arizona residency to rent here. A visitor from another state can rent on a valid U.S. driver's license, subject to the same age, record, and insurance rules as a local. Nothing extra is required for the license itself.

International visitors need a valid driver's license from their home country, plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) if that license is not in English. The IDP is a standard translation of your license that you arrange in your home country before you travel, usually through a national automobile association. Together they confirm that you are licensed to drive, which keeps the handoff fast.

One detail trips up international renters: the IDP has to be obtained before you leave home. You cannot pick one up in Arizona, and it is only valid alongside your original license, never on its own. Arrange it early through your country's issuing body, and pack it with your license so both are in hand on delivery day.

How to confirm you qualify before booking

Run this short check before you reserve. Are you 25 or older, or 21 to 24 and willing to ask about approval? Is your record clean of major violations? Do you carry insurance you can show proof of? If you are visiting from abroad, is your license in English, or do you have an IDP to go with it?

If every answer is yes, you are clear to book. If you are 21 to 24, or unsure whether something on your record counts, call or text (623) 400-3031 or message @grantmotorgroup before you reserve. The team can confirm your eligibility in a couple of minutes, so there are no surprises on delivery day and your date stays locked.
