Is there a young-driver surcharge or under-25 fee to rent an exotic car?

Updated: July 17, 2026

Short answer

No. Grant Motor Group does not add a separate young-driver surcharge or per-day under-25 fee. Instead it sets an age floor: you must be 25 to rent, or 21 with prior GMG approval. Mainstream rental chains charge a young-renter fee of roughly $10 to $65 a day; exotic rental gates by age instead.

Grant Motor Group does not charge a young-driver surcharge or a per-day under-25 fee. There is no line item that raises your daily rate because of your age. What GMG uses instead is an age floor. You must be 25 to rent, or 21 with prior approval from GMG. If you qualify at 21, you pay the same daily rate as a 40-year-old renter. The rest of this page explains how that differs from a regular rental-counter fee, why exotic companies gate by age, and what a driver aged 21 to 24 needs to book.

Does Grant Motor Group charge an under-25 or young-driver surcharge?

No, GMG publishes no young-driver surcharge and no daily under-25 fee. The daily rate for each car is the same whatever your age, as long as you meet the rental requirements. A BMW M2 Competition is $399 a day and a Lamborghini Urus S is $1,199 a day for a 25-year-old and for a 55-year-old alike. There is no age multiplier baked into that number and no "young driver" line added at checkout. (Rates can change, so confirm the live price for your dates when you book.)

The age rule is a yes-or-no gate, not a fee. The minimum age to rent is 25. Drivers who are 21 to 24 can rent, but only with prior GMG approval arranged before the pickup day. Every renter, at any age, has to show the same three things: a valid driver's license, a clean driving record with no major violations (a DUI, reckless driving, or a recent suspension is usually disqualifying, so confirm your situation when you book), and proof of insurance in their own name. International visitors bring a valid driver's license from their home country, plus an International Driving Permit if that license is not in English. So the deciding factor for a young renter is approval, not a surcharge.

How a mainstream young-renter fee works, and why exotics skip it

At a regular rental counter, being under 25 usually means a daily fee. A young-renter fee is an extra charge added to the rental for drivers roughly aged 18 to 25, applied by age alone regardless of your record. Chase's consumer guide puts the range at $10 to $65 per day on top of the base rate. NerdWallet's breakdown by company shows how that plays out: Alamo runs about $20 a day, Enterprise about $25, Budget about $27, and Hertz up to $52 a day. On a week-long rental, that can quietly add a few hundred dollars.

Mainstream chains use the fee because they still rent to 21-to-24-year-olds in volume, across a fleet of economy and midsize cars. The daily charge is how they price the extra risk of a young driver in a Corolla or a Camry. Exotic rental does not work that way. GMG runs a small fleet of six-figure cars, so it manages young-driver risk at the door with an approval step rather than by tacking a surcharge onto a supercar rate. The table below shows the two approaches side by side.

Why exotic rentals set the bar at 25

The age floor exists because young drivers crash more and cost more to insure, and the car at stake is worth six figures. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that the fatal crash rate per mile driven for 16-to-19-year-olds is "just over 3 times the rate for drivers ages 20 and over," and it notes that risk is highest at ages 16 to 17. Risk stays elevated into the early twenties as drivers build road experience. That risk curve is why insurers charge young drivers more and why rental companies watch age closely.

Insurance is the direct link for an exotic. GMG requires you to carry your own comprehensive auto insurance, active and in your own name, with liability high enough for the car you are renting. You cannot add coverage at pickup. Younger drivers generally pay more for that policy, and many standard personal plans cap out at ordinary vehicle values or exclude high-value cars entirely. That gap is exactly what the age and insurance checks are meant to close. Arizona's mandatory minimum coverage is only $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for injuries plus $15,000 for property damage, per the Arizona Department of Transportation. Those limits do not come close to the value of the car. Even the most affordable exotic in a fleet like this is far above them: the Corvette Z06 starts well above $100,000 new, and a McLaren 600LT listed from about £185,500 when it was built. Setting a firm age and insurance bar is how a company protects a car that costs more than most houses.

Can a driver aged 21 to 24 rent at Grant Motor Group?

Yes, a driver who is 21 to 24 can rent, with prior GMG approval set up before pickup. It is not automatic, and it is not something to sort out on the pickup day, so reach out ahead of time to get cleared.

When a driver in that age range calls, many expect a young-driver surcharge like the airport counter tacks on. We explain there is no such line item here. The conversation is about approval instead. We look at the license, the record, and the insurance, and we confirm you for the specific car before your date. Starting a few days early keeps pickup simple.

Here is what a 21-to-24 renter needs to have in order:

  1. Prior GMG approval. Contact GMG before your rental date and get confirmed as an approved driver. Everything below is part of that review.
  2. A valid driver's license and a clean record. A clean driving record with no major violations; a DUI, reckless driving, or a recent suspension is usually disqualifying, so confirm your situation when you book. International visitors add a valid driver's license from their home country, plus an International Driving Permit if that license is not in English.
  3. Comprehensive insurance in your own name. The policy must be active before pickup with liability high enough for your specific car. GMG confirms the exact figure at booking. You cannot buy or add it at the counter.
  4. A credit card for the security hold. GMG places a refundable security hold (an authorization that reserves funds without charging them) before pickup. A credit card is the best way to carry the hold; a debit hold ties up your own cash. Confirm card options when you book. The amount varies by car and is confirmed when you book, and it is released after a clean return inspection.

None of those steps is an age surcharge. They are the same requirements every renter meets, with the single added step of getting approved when you are under 25.

The bottom line

If you are 25 or older, there is nothing extra to think about here: no young-driver surcharge, no under-25 fee, just the daily rate and the standard license, insurance, and security-hold requirements. If you are 21 to 24, you are not shut out and you are not charged more per day, but you do need GMG to approve you before your pickup date, so start that conversation early. Drivers under 21 are not eligible. Have your license, your own comprehensive insurance, and a credit card ready, and confirm your car's exact hold amount and current rate when you reserve.
