What are the pickup and return times, and is there a grace period if you're late?

Updated: July 17, 2026

Short answer

Your pickup and return times are set on your rental agreement when you book. Grant Motor Group offers hourly, daily, and weekly rentals and does not publish one fixed grace period, so confirm your window at booking and call if you will be late.

Your pickup and return times are set on your rental agreement when you book. Grant Motor Group offers hourly, daily, and weekly rentals. GMG does not post one set grace period, so the honest answer is to confirm your exact return time when you reserve and to send a quick text if traffic or weather is going to make you late. A short heads-up almost always keeps a late arrival from turning into an extra charge.

When your rental clock starts and stops

Your pickup and return times are set on your rental agreement when you book, and GMG offers hourly, daily, and weekly rentals. Across the industry a rental day is commonly a 24-hour block measured from pickup (Avis states that its "Vehicles are rented on a daily (24-hour) basis," and Budget says its return times "are based on a 24-hour period"), but your own window is the one on your agreement, so confirm it when you book.

Your agreement lists the specific clock times for both ends of the trip. That paperwork is the part that matters if there is ever a question, because the written return time is the number a late charge is measured against. Read it at pickup and set a phone reminder for an hour before.

If GMG delivers the car to you, the clock is tied to the handoff, not to when you left home. GMG delivers anywhere in Scottsdale, including hotels, resorts, private homes, and Scottsdale Airport (SDL); a delivery fee applies and is confirmed at booking. Delivery outside Scottsdale, including Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX), is confirmed at booking along with the fee. Either way, your window is the one on the agreement, so line up your plans around that time and not a rough guess.

Is there a grace period if you run late?

GMG does not publish a single, fixed grace-period length, so the real answer is to confirm your car's return window at booking and call if you are going to miss it. That is not a dodge. It reflects how GMG runs: your exact times live on your agreement, and the team would rather adjust your window by phone than surprise you with a fee. A quick call or text also frees the car for the next renter or lets them hold it for you.

For a sense of scale, the big national rental companies land on a very consistent number. Avis, Hertz, and Budget each give a 29-minute grace period past the 24-hour mark. Avis spells it out: "There is a 29-minute grace period for returns." Hertz uses the same window, noting that "extra hour charges will be incurred at the 30 minute mark if the vehicle is returned more than 29 minutes past the original rental time." Budget matches it, accepting any car "returned within 29 minutes past the 24-hour window" with no added fee.

Treat that 29 minutes as a common industry figure, not GMG's published number. GMG has not posted its own grace window, and these figures can change, so ask what applies to your booking. The safe habit is to plan for an on-time return and keep the 29-minute cushion as a buffer for traffic, not a plan.

What a late return usually costs

Once you pass the grace period, late charges stack up faster than most people expect, which is the real reason to call ahead. The national policies show the pattern. Avis applies "a 3/4-day late charge" after 30 minutes late, then a "full-day late charge" after 90 minutes. Budget charges "an additional hourly rate, plus taxes" after 30 minutes. Hertz starts extra-hour charges at the same 30-minute mark. Avis also warns that there is "no grace period for rental fees, surcharges and optional equipment or protections charges," so those items bill from the moment you are late.

On an exotic, a "full-day late charge" is not a small number. GMG's daily rates run from $399 for the BMW M2 Competition up to $1,499 for the Ferrari 458 Italia Liberty Walk, with the Lamborghini Urus S at $1,199 and the McLaren 600LT at $999. (Rates are volatile and subject to change, so confirm current pricing when you book.) Rolling into a second full day on a Ferrari because you were 100 minutes late is an expensive mistake that one phone call would have prevented.

There is a second reason on-time returns matter: the security hold. GMG places a refundable security hold before pickup (a credit card is the best way to carry it; a debit hold ties up your own cash, so confirm card options when you book), and that hold is released after a clean return inspection. A late, rushed return can slow the inspection and the release. Give the team time to walk the car with you, and your hold clears faster.

Returning early, after hours, or when a monsoon slows you down

If your plans shrink and you want to return early, ask GMG at booking how an early return is handled. The better move is to book the length you actually need.

After-hours timing is a real planning point. Because GMG is a concierge operation built on personal handoffs rather than an airport counter, you should set your return time for a window when the team can meet you and inspect the car with you. That inspection is what releases your security hold, so a live handoff is in your interest. Confirm the latest return time GMG can accommodate before you lock in evening plans.

Arizona weather is the one delay worth building around. Monsoon season runs on a fixed calendar from June 15 through September 30 every year, and a single afternoon storm can throw a dust wall or a flash flood across a Scottsdale road in minutes. If a storm hits while you are heading back, the return time is not worth risking a $200,000 car or your safety. The Arizona Department of Transportation's Pull Aside, Stay Alive guidance tells drivers to pull completely off the paved road during a dust storm, set the brake, and wait it out rather than push through low visibility. Do that, then text GMG. A weather delay you flag in advance is a scheduling note. A car you crashed rushing through a dust storm is a very different conversation.

The pickup handoff: what to expect

Allow a few minutes for the pickup handoff, and arrive on time so you are not eating into your own paid window. GMG does not toss you the keys and wave. The handoff includes a check of the car's condition, a check of your license and full-coverage insurance in your own name, and the paperwork that sets your exact return time. The car's condition is checked at handoff and again at return, which protects you as much as GMG.

Use those minutes to learn the car. Exotics have quirks worth knowing before you pull into traffic. The Porsche 911 GT3, for example, does not start with a button. It uses a mechanical rotary ignition switch, a detail Porsche kept from its motorsport heritage. The McLaren 600LT vents its exhaust straight up behind your shoulders. Knowing how your specific car starts, shifts, and behaves is part of a good handoff, and it is far easier to ask at pickup than to figure out in a parking lot.

Get your pickup and return times set before you book so the whole trip runs on schedule: call or text (623) 400-3031, or send a DM to @grantmotorgroup on Instagram, and the team will confirm your exact window, what happens if you run late, and where to meet you anywhere in Scottsdale.
