Short answer
Book at least one to two weeks ahead for the best choice of car, and earlier for peak season. Scottsdale's busiest stretch runs from January through spring, around Barrett-Jackson, the WM Phoenix Open, and spring training, when popular cars sell out. Last-minute rentals are sometimes possible, so it is always worth a call.
For most dates, booking one to two weeks ahead gives you a clean choice of car and time to confirm insurance and delivery. For peak season or a specific car on a specific weekend, reserve earlier. The fleet is small and curated, just six cars, so a single popular car can be claimed well before your date once demand picks up. The earlier you commit, the more control you have over which car you actually get.
Scottsdale gets busy from January through spring, and exotic rentals move with that calendar. A few events drive the biggest spikes:
During these weeks, the most wanted cars can be booked solid. If your trip lands on any of them, treat early booking as the default, not the backup plan. Mild winter weather also makes this the prime season for top-down and open-air driving, which adds to the demand on top of the events.
The flip side is that summer is quieter. If your dates are flexible and you can take the heat, an off-season rental gives you more availability and a better shot at any car you want on shorter notice.
Weekends are busier than weekdays year-round, and a few single days spike on their own: New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day, and major holiday weekends all draw extra demand for a special car. If your date is one of those, treat it like peak season even in an otherwise quiet month, and book early. A car for a specific celebration on a specific evening is exactly the kind of reservation that benefits most from a head start.
The headline cars go first. The Ferrari 458 Italia Liberty Walk and the Lamborghini Urus S are the most requested, so they are the ones to lock early if either is your goal. There is only one of each, which means a single booking takes that car off the board for your dates entirely.
The more accessible cars, like the BMW M2 Competition and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, tend to have wider availability, but they are also the value picks that groups grab for events. The Porsche 911 GT3 and McLaren 600LT sit in between.
If you have one specific car in mind, book as soon as your dates are firm. If you are flexible on the car, you have more room to reserve closer to the date, because something in the fleet is more likely to be open even in a busy week.
It also pays to name a backup. If your first choice is the Ferrari or the Lamborghini, tell the team a second car you would be happy with. That way, if your top pick is already booked for your dates, you are not starting the search over, and you still drive something you are excited about. A first choice plus a backup is the fastest path to a confirmed reservation in a busy week.
A short lead time is not a dead end. Plans change, and cars open up, so a same-week or even same-day rental is sometimes possible outside the busiest periods. The only way to know is to ask. A quick call beats assuming the answer is no.
If you are booking last minute, flexibility is your friend. Being open on the car, the exact dates, or the delivery window all improve your odds. Have your insurance ready to go as well, because the faster you can clear the requirements, the easier it is for the team to slot you in on short notice.
Even so, last-minute should be the exception, not the plan. For anything you really care about, like a specific car for a specific occasion, early booking is the only way to be sure.
If your dates are locked but the car you want is taken, ask whether a cancellation list is an option. Plans change, and a spot can open closer to the date. It is not a guarantee, so do not build your plan around it, but it costs nothing to ask and it puts you first in line if something frees up. Pair that with flexibility on the car, and your odds improve a lot.
Use this as a default. Off-peak, book one to two weeks out. Peak winter or a named event week, book a month or more ahead. Set on one specific car for one specific day, reserve the moment your dates are firm. Flexible on the car, you can wait a little longer, because something in the lineup is more likely to be open.
The smaller the fleet, the more a single booking matters, and GMG runs a tight, curated lineup of six cars. That is the whole logic behind booking early: with so few cars, the calendar fills in a way a giant rental lot's never would.
There is no penalty for booking early and every advantage to it. Reserving ahead locks your car and your delivery, gives you time to sort insurance without pressure, and takes the one real risk, an unavailable car, off the table. The only reason to wait is genuinely undecided dates, and even then a quick call to check availability early is worth the two minutes.
