Can you extend an exotic car rental after it has already started?

Updated: July 17, 2026

Short answer

Yes. You can usually extend an exotic car rental after it has already started, as long as the car is not booked right after you. Call or text Grant Motor Group as early as you can. We check availability, add the days to your agreement, adjust the security hold, and confirm your insurance still covers the new dates.

Extending a supercar you are already driving is common, and the answer is almost always yes. The one real gate is the calendar. If no one has your exact car reserved right after your slot, Grant Motor Group can roll the rental forward by a day or more. You keep the same car, we update the paperwork, and the added days bill at the daily rate. Cross into a longer total and the multi-day discount can kick in. The sooner you ask, the better your odds.

Can you actually extend once the rental has started?

Yes, in most cases, and availability is the only thing that really decides it. Grant Motor Group owns and runs its own fleet, so if your exact car is free after your booked dates, an extension is a quick change to your agreement. If someone else already has that car reserved for the day you want to keep it, any extension is subject to availability. Either way, you are not stuck guessing on your own.

The request itself is a phone call, not a screen tap. That is standard across the rental world. Enterprise tells renters plainly that the way to extend is to contact the renting location by phone, since the branch has to place an added authorization on your card. We work the same way. A quick call or text lets a real person check the calendar, price the extra time, and update your contract on the spot.

This is one place a fleet company beats a peer-to-peer app. On a platform like Turo, each car has a single private owner and a single calendar. If that owner has another guest lined up or wants the car back, there is no backup vehicle waiting. Turo's own help pages tell a guest whose trip falls through to rebook a different host's car within 24 hours, and a refund can take three to 10 days to land. A fleet company can check its whole calendar, subject to availability. When you are mid-trip and want another day, that difference matters.

How much do the extra days cost?

Added days bill at the same daily rate you started with, and a longer total can trigger the multi-day discount. There is no penalty rate for keeping the car longer. In fact, more days usually means a better per-day price, the same way Enterprise notes that longer rentals often reach more affordable weekly and monthly rates. Here are the current published daily rates for the fleet:

VehicleDaily rate
BMW M2 Competition$399
Corvette Z06 (2025)$449
Porsche 911 GT3$799
McLaren 600LT$999
Lamborghini Urus S$1,199
Ferrari 458 Italia Liberty Walk$1,499

Confirm the exact rate and any multi-day discount for your dates when you call, since pricing can change. Say you booked a Corvette Z06 for two days and want a third. That extra day adds one more daily rate, and the LT6 V8 under the hood makes 670 horsepower, the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 ever put in a production car, so a bonus day is easy to want. A weekend road trip in the Urus S is another common case. Its 657-horsepower V8 is built for long highway miles, so drivers often ask to keep it one more day.

Extending also touches your security hold. A hold is an authorization that reserves money on a credit card without charging it. When you add days, we re-authorize the hold to cover the longer rental, then release it after a clean return. A credit card is the best way to carry the hold; a debit hold ties up your own cash. Confirm card options when you book, and have that same card ready when you extend.

What can block or complicate an extension?

Three things can get in the way: the next booking, your insurance, and mileage. Knowing them ahead of time keeps a simple request simple.

  • The next reservation. If your exact car is promised to another renter right after you, we cannot hold it past their start. Any extension is subject to availability.
  • Your insurance. Your own full-coverage auto policy has to stay active across the new dates, in your name, with limits high enough for an exotic. Coverage cannot be bolted on at handoff, so a lapse or an end date inside your extension can block the extra days. Confirm your policy runs through the new return date before you ask.
  • Mileage. Extra days usually add to your mileage allowance, but the per-day figure varies by car. Grant Motor Group does not publish a single mileage cap. Allowances often land somewhere near 50 to 100 miles a day, which are common industry figures, not our published numbers, so confirm your car's exact allowance when you extend.

More days on the road also means more time under Arizona traffic law, and that is on you as the driver of record. Going more than 20 mph over a posted limit is criminal excessive speeding under A.R.S. 28-701.02, a class 3 misdemeanor rather than a simple ticket. A single speeding conviction also puts three points on your own license through the Arizona MVD, not ours, and eight points in 12 months can trigger a suspension. Keep it clean on day four the same as day one.

How do you request an extension the right way?

Call or text as early as you can, and do not wait until your return hour is closing in. Early notice gives us the room to keep your exact car, subject to availability. Here is the simple sequence:

  1. Reach out early. A day ahead beats an hour ahead. It widens your options and locks in the car before someone else books it.
  2. Give your name and current rental dates. This pulls up your agreement fast.
  3. Tell us your new return date and time. Be specific so we can check the calendar against it.
  4. We confirm the car. If your car is free, you keep it. If not, the extension is subject to availability.
  5. We update the agreement and hold. The added days go on your contract, and we re-authorize the credit-card hold to match.
  6. Confirm your insurance covers the new dates. A quick check now avoids a problem at return.

The reason to move early is real. If you are deep into a drive, out on the reopened Apache Trail dirt section or climbing State Route 179 through Sedona's red rock, cell service is thin and the day gets away from you. A message sent the night before beats a scramble at noon. Return the car on the level of fuel you got it on, same as the original booking, and the extended return works like any other.

Extending an in-progress rental is one of the easiest changes to make, as long as you ask before the calendar closes on you.
