Can you rent an exotic car one-way and drop it off in a different city?

Updated: July 17, 2026

Short answer

Not the way a mainstream chain does it. Grant Motor Group is a Scottsdale exotic rental, so every rental starts and ends with the GMG team, not at a branch in a different city. You can still have one delivered to one address and collected from another, confirmed at booking, or drive it one-way and drop it back with us.

You cannot pick up a Ferrari in Scottsdale and leave it at a rental counter in Los Angeles or Las Vegas. Grant Motor Group runs one boutique fleet out of the Phoenix area, and there is no sister branch in another city waiting to take the car back. That is the honest answer for exotic rentals across the board, not just for us. What we offer instead is a different kind of flexibility. We can deliver a car to one address and pick it up from another, confirmed at booking, and you are welcome to drive to another city and return the car to us. Every rental starts and ends with the GMG team.

Why exotic rentals skip true one-way drop-offs

A true one-way rental only works because a big chain has a car counter in the city you are driving to. Avis, for example, has locations in all 50 states, so the car you leave in another city simply becomes that branch's inventory. Avis notes that "most locations do not charge a drop-off or one-way fee," because the cost of moving the car is folded into the day rate and spread across a huge network. Exotic fleets have none of that. There is no Ferrari counter at the Las Vegas airport ready to receive your car and rent it to the next person.

A small exotic fleet is a set of hand-picked, six-figure cars, and each one is close to irreplaceable. Our Ferrari 458 Liberty Walk is a custom widebody build on a model that already sprints to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and tops 200 mph. You cannot hand a car like that to a stranger's counter in another state and expect a matching one to appear. If it stayed in a different city, someone would have to drive or trailer it hundreds of miles back, and it would sit uninsured and out of service the whole time. That cost and risk is why the exotic rental model is round-trip to home base.

So the classic one-way (pick up here, leave it there) is off the table with any real exotic rental, including ours. The good news is that the thing most people actually mean by "one-way" is usually easy to do.

The one-way flexibility we do offer across the metro

You can have the car delivered to one address and collected from a different one; confirm both addresses at booking. That covers most real-world "drop it somewhere else" plans. Delivery is available anywhere in Scottsdale, including hotels, resorts, private homes, events, and Scottsdale Airport; a delivery fee applies and is confirmed at booking. So a car can arrive at your Old Town hotel on Friday and be picked up from a friend's place in Paradise Valley on Sunday, with no driving back to a rental office in between.

Here is what that looks like in practice:

  1. Tell us the delivery address and the pickup address when you book.
  2. We confirm both addresses and the delivery fee. Delivery outside Scottsdale is confirmed at booking along with the fee.
  3. We hand the car over, then collect it from your second location at the agreed time. The car's condition is checked at handoff and again at return.

Delivery to Phoenix Sky Harbor or any spot outside Scottsdale is confirmed at booking along with the fee. This split delivery and collection is the closest thing to "one-way" that a hand-picked fleet can offer, and for most trips it removes the only real hassle: getting the car back to us yourself.

Airport handoffs: Scottsdale versus Sky Harbor

Airport plans are where the "different location" question comes up most, and the two Phoenix-area airports work very differently. Scottsdale Airport is inside our Scottsdale delivery area, so a car can meet you there when you land or collect you there before you fly; a delivery fee applies and is confirmed at booking. Sky Harbor is the bigger and trickier one.

Every rental brand at Phoenix Sky Harbor operates out of a single off-terminal Rental Car Center, and there are no rental counters inside the passenger terminals at all. Travelers connect to that building on the free PHX Sky Train. We do not work out of that shared center. Delivery to or collection from Sky Harbor is confirmed at booking along with the fee.

If your trip is purely airport-to-airport in two different cities, though, that is the one shape we cannot do. The car that meets you at Sky Harbor is the same car the GMG team collects at the end of your rental.

Driving to another city and bringing it back

You can absolutely take an exotic on a road trip to Sedona, Las Vegas, or Los Angeles and then return it to us. That is a one-way drive with a round-trip car, and it is welcome. Two things need a quick check before you go: mileage and your approved driving area.

Mileage caps vary by car. Industry allowances often land somewhere near 50 to 100 miles a day, but those are common industry figures, not our published number, so confirm your specific car's allowance and the current pricing at booking. A drive to Las Vegas and back is roughly 600 miles, so it is worth pricing the extra miles up front rather than at return.

The bigger item is insurance and the approved-use area. We require you to carry your own full-coverage auto policy in your name, because a personal policy's liability is what stands behind you in a crash. Arizona's mandatory minimum is only 25/50/15, meaning $25,000 of bodily-injury coverage per person, $50,000 per accident, and $15,000 for property damage, per the Arizona Department of Transportation. Those figures are far too low to stand behind a six-figure car, which is why real coverage matters most on a long out-of-town drive. Out-of-state trips need to be cleared in advance and may not be possible on every car, and racing or off-road use is prohibited. So map the route with us before you leave.

The bottom-line plan for your trip

One-way across two cities is not something an exotic fleet can do, but a one-way handoff across the valley is simple, and a road trip that ends back home is easy to set up. Our fleet runs from the BMW M2 Competition around $399 a day to the Ferrari 458 Liberty Walk around $1,499, and prices can change, so confirm the current rate when you reserve. Give us your delivery spot, your pickup spot, and where you plan to drive, and we will lock in the mileage and the delivery fee before you book.
